Fundación Por Los Animales was created 14 years ago with the purpose of controlling the proliferation of dogs and cats in Puerto Rico, through educational campaigns and sterilization programs, at low or no cost, for pets of people and communities of scarce resources.
Overpopulation is serious business. There are an estimated 1,300,000 abandoned, abused, and stray dogs and cats on our streets. Rescuers can't keep up, shelters and sanctuaries are overcrowded, and as a result, around 3,000 pets are euthanized monthly in control centers.
Sterilization is the only statistically proven and humane method that solves the problem of overpopulation, avoids abandonment, suffering, and the death of innocent babies. Through the years we have performed more than 5,000 sterilizations, thanks to the sponsorship of individuals, private companies, and fundraising events.
Our first fundraising event in 2021 is the "Yo soy Responsable campaign. The amount raised will serve to continue directing efforts towards our mission with the sterilization campaign until we achieve a future where no more dogs or cats are sacrificed due to homelessness.
